Nature & Gardens

Although small and arid, and substantially built up, the Maltese Islands have a diverse array of habitats and species, including a significant percentage of endemic species – especially in Gozo and Comino, the islands that are less built. Malta, meanwhile, has several old public gardens that have charming fountains.

Fortress Islands

Strategic location in the centre of the Mediterranean made Malta highly prized for much of its history, and this led to Malta becoming one of the most fortified countries in the world. Now the dense array of fortifications are rich tourist attractions, revealing the elements of military architecture and impressive in their own right.

Glorious Beaches

Although there are less than 10 sandy beaches in the islands, quality makes up for quantity, with charming sweeps of reddish sand and clear waters. There are also innumerable coves, some little known even with the locals, where a little effort – such as 30 minute walk from the nearest road – rewards you with a hideaway you can make yours for the day.
